Bettiah : A Leopard, which had has created terror at Bhikhana Thori under Gaunaha police station under Narakatiaganj sub- division in West Champaran district for the last three days, returned to the forest on May 17, 2017. It had created terror at the village by occasionally coming out of Manguraha forest under Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) for the last three days.
According to a report reaching here from Bhikhana Thori, the panic stricken villagers have sealed their houses after the Leopard killed a goat of Nathu Yadav. Rambihari Mahto, Mukhia, Dhanaura panchayat, said that forest officials had been requested to tame the Leopard.
The forests range officer, Manguraha, Mohamad Afasar said he had ordered for beating of drums and lighting torches to drive out the big cat from the village. After efforts of several hours, the Leopard returned to the forest on May 17. Meanwhile, a wildlife lover Sushil Shasank alleged that the forest has became barren in the absence of shrubs while water source has gone dry in the forest.
