Patna : World No 71 Lakshya Sen, 18, India, qualified for the main draw of Barfoot & Thompson New Zealand Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 category Badminton Tournament at Eventfinda Stadium,  Auckland, New Zealand, on April 30, 2019. Sen won both his qualifiers on April 30 morning. But, World No 39 Parupalli Kashyap, 32, lost his second qualifiers and failed to enter the main draw of the tournament.

Lakshya Sen, whose elder brother Chirag Sen is also an international badminton player ranked World No 189, defeated World No 47 Ajay Jayaram, India, 21-18, 21-13 in 31 minutes in the first qualification match at Eventfinda Stadium,  Auckland, New Zealand, on April 30, 2019. Sen  defeated  Tech Zhi Soo, 23, Malaysia,  21-11, 21-12 in 32 minutes in the 2nd qualification match. 

Kashyap won his first qualification match against Peter Yan, 19, Australia,  21-8, 21-9 in 26 minutes.  He, however, lost his 2nd qualification match to World No 115 Sun Feixiang, 20, China, 16-21, 18-21 in 42 minutes..
