Patna : Nick Kyrgios, 24, Australia, who had won City Open title at Washington, USA, last week jumping 25 places in the ATP rankings released on August 5, 2019, lost in the first round of Rogers Cup at Montreal, Canada, to World No 33 Kyle Edmund, UK, on August 7, 2019, early morning.

Edmund beat World No 27 Kyrgios 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the 2nd round of the tournament. Edmund hammered 15 Aces in the match to 9 by Kyrgios, who had fired over 100 Aces in the City Open. Edmund also won two break points in the match besides winning 3 games in a row. Edmund won 42 service points to 34 by the Australian.

World No 7 Alexander Zverev, 22, Germany, beat World No 62 Cameron Norrie, 23, UK, 7-6, 6-4 in the second round firing 10 Aces in the match. The German also won a break point in the match besides winning 3 games in a row. Third seed Zverev won 55 service points to 45 by Norries to enter the 3rd round.

World No 17 Nikoloz Basilashvili, 27, Georgia, beat World No 35 Jan-Lennard Struff, 29, Germany, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the second round.Lennard though fired 12 Aces in the match to just 3 by the Georgian. Basilashvili won 3 break points to 2 by Struff. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. He also won 60 service points to 44 Struff. Basilashvili will face Zverev in the next round.

But, 15th seed David Goffin, 28, Belgium, lost to World No 24 Guido Pella, 29, Argentina, 4-6, 6-7 in the first round. World No 18 Goffin though fired 12 Aces in the match. Pella won a break point in the match besides winning 3 games in a row. Pella also won 54 service points to 44 by Goffin.
