Patna: Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghthan (KVS) on October 18 suspended Principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Muzaffarpur, Rajiv Ranjan, and transferred all the teachers and non-teaching staff. Action was taken following a report submitted by an inquiry committee headed by assistant commissioenr of KVS L M Mishra who had probed the September 25 incident in which a class 12 student was brutally assaulted in his classroom by some students.
The KVS also issued transfer certificates to two students named as main accused in the assault case. FIRs have been filed against five other students with Scheduled caste/scheduled tribes special police station at Muzaffrpur. Babban Baitha, Officer incharge of the police station, said action would be taken under the SC/ST(Prevention of atrocities) Act  as the victim was a dalit student and the culprits were from upper castes.
Mishra said the KVS decided to suspend the principal for his failure to maintain discipline on the campus and also his action of ignoring the incident even after the video clips of the assault went viral. One of the students, who was in the group which assaulted the dalit student, had  made a video film of the entire episode and uploaded it on social media. All the 20 teachers were transferred as they too did not take any action against the erring students who had become notorious for their actions and had assaulted other students in the past too.
This is the for the first time that action has been taken en masse against teachers, students and principal by the school management. Union minister of state for human resources development,Upendra Kushwaha, who is an MP from Bihar, had ordered an inquiry following receipt of reports of assault on one of the dalit students in the classroom.
