Patna: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK),Haranut, Nalanda, will receive the Best KVK award (Zonal) on the Foundation Day of ICAR on July 16, 2016, from PM Narendra Modi in the presence of Union Agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh and other dignitaries,  at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, for its significant acheivement for welfare of farmer under the leadership of  Sanjeev Kumar, Senior Scientist cum Head of the Kendra.

The KVK, Harnaut, started Organic farming at village Sohdih  in 15 hectare with 30 farmers in 2010-11. The organic vegetable farming area  increased to 5,900 hectare in 2015. A world records of paddy production was achieved by young farmers Sumant kumar of Darveshpura village in Nalanda district by getting extraordinary yield of 224 qunital paddy per hectare under the technical guidance and support by KVK, Harnaut. A world record of potato production was achieved by Rakesh Kumar of sohdih, Nalanda, in 2013 by producing 1,088 quintal potato per hectare. Severe wilting problem in pulse crops in about 400 acres of Tal area of Nalanda has been successfully minimized through seed treatment programme in various affected villages.
