Patna : Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 10 runs in 3rd match of IPL 2021 at M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, Tamilnadu, on April 11, 2021, late night, as opener Nitish Rana scored 80 runs in 56 balls hitting 9 fours and 4 sixes, Rahul Tripathy scored 53 runs in 29 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes while Dinesh Karthik (wk) remained unbeaten on 22 in 9 balls hitting 2 fours and 1 six. KKR captain Eoin Morgan fell to spinner Mohammad Nabi for 2 runs. SRH had won the toss but opted to bowl. Batting first, KKR scored 187/6 in 20 overs. Nitish Rana was named Player Of The Match.
SRH required 22 runs in last over but could score only 11 runs to finish at 177/5 in 20 overs. Manish Pandey hit the last ball of the last over for a six but that was not enough. In the 19th over bowled by fast bowler Pat Cummins, Abdul Samad hit 2 sixes. Chasing a target of 188 runs, SRH scored 177/5. Manish Pandey remained unbeaten on 61 in 44 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes while Jonny Bairstow scored 55 runs in 40 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes.
SRH had lost their first two wickets that of openers David Warner ( captain) and Wriddhiman Saha with only 10 runs on board. Warner fell to pacer Prasidh Krishna for 3 while Saha fell to spinner Shakib Al Hasan for 7. But, Jonny Bairstow and Manish Pandey added 92 runs for the 3rd wicket. Bairstow fell to Pat Cummins for 55. Mohammad Nabi fell to medium fast bowler Prasidh Krishna for 14 making it 131/4. Vijay Shankar fell to fast bowler Andre Russel for 11 and it was 150/5. Abdul Samad remained unbeaten on 19 runs in 8 balls hitting 2 sixes.
