Saharsa : Angry with the death of a newborn boy Saharsa Sadar Hospital on March 31, 2017, morning his relatives  vandalised the delivery room and Neonatal Special Care Unit (NSCU). The newborn was admitted to NSCU when his condition started deteriorating after his birth at 6 am but he died there. Civil Surgeon Dr Ashok Kumar has sought an explanation from the doctor besides removing the two nurses from duty.

Lalit Kumar, father of the newborn and a native of village Atalkha under Basnahi police station in Saharsa district, said that his wife Smita Kumari was admitted to Sadar hospital at 4 am on March 31 but before admitting her the nurse on duty demanded Rs 3,000 from him which he paid, Lalit alleged. Smita gave birth to a boy at 6 am. The nurse said the newborn was fine and asked him to give Rs 100 each to all the staff, he said adding that later on he was told that the boy was slightly unwell and was admitted to NSCU at 7.45 am.

Lalit claimed that the nurse on duty never showed him the child. When he and his family members went to see the child, they found him dead. No nurse or doctor was present there, he said adding even after taking money from him his child was not treated properly. SI, Sadar police station, Saharsa, Rajesh Bharti, reached the hospital to bring the situation under control. Civil Surgeon Dr Ashok Kumar spoke to Lalit, Smita and other family members.
