Patna : World No 9 and 4th seed Karen Khachanov, Russia, 6th seed Fabio Fognini, Italy, and winner of three Grand Slam titles Any Murray, UK, entered the quarter-finals China Open at Beijing on October 2, 2019.

Khachanov beat World No 72 Jeremy Chardy, 32, France, 7-6, 7-6 in 1hr 41 minutes in second round to enter the men’s singles quarter-finals. The Russian fired 11 Aces in the match to 12 by Chardy. Non of the two players could win a break point in the match. Khachanow, however, won 3 games in a row in the match. He also won 58 service points to 56 by Chardy.

World No 12 Fognini beat World No 35, Andrey Rublev, 21, Russia, 6-3,6-4 in 2nd round. The Italian won 4 break points in the match to 2 by the Russian.  Fogninin fired 6 Aces in the match to 5 by Rublev. The Italian won 3 games in a row to 2 by the Russian. Fognini won 41 service points to 26 by Rublev. Fognini will face Khachanov in QFs on October 4, 2019.

World No 503 Any Murray, who had stunned World No 13 Matteo Berrettini, Italy, in first round on October 1, 2019,  defeated compatriot and World No 69 Cameron Norrie, 24, in a three-set thriller 7-6, 6-7, 6-1 in 2nd round to enter the QFs of the event. Norrie though fired 10 Aces to 6 by Murray. Murray won 4 break points in the match to 2 by Norrie. He also won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Norrie.
