Khachanov beats Delpo to reach QFs of French Open

Patna : World No 11 Karen Kachanov, 23, Russia, upset World No 9 Juan Martin del Porto, 30, Argentina, in four-sets on June 3, 2019, late night, to enter the men’s singles quarter-finals of French Open, a clay court Grand Slam event.

Khachanov beat Juan Martin del Port 7-5, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at Roland Garros, Paris, France, in the 4th round to advance to the QFs of the tournament. It will be his first appearance in the QFs of a Grand Slam event. Delpo, the 2009 US Open Champion,  had reached semi-finals of French Open in 2009 and 2018.

Khachanov broke Delpo’s service 4 times in the match while the latter broke his service twice. Delpo though fired 11 Aces in the match to 6 by Khachanov. The Russian won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Delpo. He also won 85 service points to 78 by Delpo.

Khachanov will face World No 4 Dominic Thiem, Austria, in the QFs on June 5, 2019, while World No 1 Novak Djokovic, Serbia, will face World No 5 Aleaxnder Zverev, Germany, in the second QFs the same day.
