Patna : World No 18 in ATP rankings Karen Khachanov, 20, Russia, on October 30, 2018, entered the 3rd round of Paris Masters, the 9th and final ATP World Tour Masters 1,000 points tournament of the men’s tennis season, after his Round of 32 opponent and World No 39 Matthew Ebden, 30, Australia, retired due to injury in the second set trailing 0-2. Khachanow had won the first set 6-2 and was leading 2-0 in the second when Ebden retired.

World No 28 Richard Gasquet, 32, France, defeated World No 29 Denis Shapovalov, 19, Canada, 6-4, 7-6 in a tough contest on October 30 to enter the second round while World No 27 Fernando Verdasco, 34, Spain, beat World No 40 Jeremy Chardy, 31, France, 6-4, 6-4 to enter the second round.

World No 17 Daniil Medvedev, 22, Russia, beat World No 24 Pablo Carreno Busta, 27, Spain, 6-2, 6-2 to enter the second round. World No 42 Marton Fucsovics, 26, Hungary, beat World No 56 Benoit Pairre, 29, France, 6-4, 6-4 to enter theĀ  second round. World No 44 Frances Tiafoe, 20, USA, beat qualifier World No 169 Nicolas Mahut, 36, France, 7-6, 6-2 to enter the second round.

Verdasco will play compatriot and World No 1 and top seed Rafael Nadal, 32, in the second round on October 31, 2018. World No 2 and 2nd seed Novak Djokovic, 31, Serbia, will play World No 48 Joao Sousa, 29, Portugal, in the second round. Sousa had reached 4th round of US Open in 2018.
