Patna : World No 8 and winner of three Grand Slam singles title Angelique Kerber, 31, Germany, will face World No 60 Bianca Andreescu, 18, Canada, in the women’s singles final of Indian Wells Masters, a premier WTA event played on hard courts at California, USA, on March 17, 2019.

Kerber beat World No 23 Belinda Bencic, 21, Switzerland, 6-4, 6-2 in the semi-finals on March 16  to enter the final. Kerber, who had won Wimbledon singles title in 2018, broke Bencic’s service 7 times while the latter broke her service 4 times. Both the players served just 1 Ace each in the match. Kerber, however, committed 6 double faults in the match to 5 by Bencic. But. Kerber’s winning perventage both on her first and second serve ( 59% & 69 %) was much better than that of Bencic ( 42 % & 31 %). Kerber also won 4 games in a row in the match to 2 by Bencic.

Bencic had defeated World No 1 and top seed Naomi Osama, Japan, in the 4th round and World No 5 Karolina Pliskova, Czech Republic, in the quarter-finals.

Teenage sensation Bianca Andeescu upset World No 6 Elina Svitolina, 24, Ukraine, in a tough three-set contest 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 in the semi-finals to reach her first Masters final. Both the players won 6 break points each in the match. But, Andreescu won 7 games in a row in the match to 4 by Svitolina. Andreescu won 56 service points to 46 by Svitolina.
