Patna : World No 8 in WTA rankings Karolina Pliskova, 26, Czech Republic, beat World No 27 Lesia Tsurenko, 29, Ukraine, to lift the women’s singles title at Brisbane Internation at Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, on January 6, 2019. Pliskova, the fifth seed, defeated Tsurenko in three-sets 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the final to win the singles title.

Tsurenko fired 6 Aces in the match to just 1 by Pliskova. Pliskova committed 5 double faults to 2 by Tsurenko. But, Pliskova won 6 break points to 4 by her rival. She also won 7 games in a row in the match to 3 by Tsurenko.

Tsurenko had defeated World No 5 and reigning US Open Champion Naomi Osaka, Japan, in the semi-finals. Top seed and World No 4 Elina Svitolina, Ukraine, had lost in the Round of 16.
