Patna : Defending champion and 4th seed Sofia Kenin, 22, USA, crashed out of Australian Open (AO) championships losing her 2nd round match to Kaia Kanepi, 35, Estonia,  at Melbourne Park, Australia, on February 11, 2021.

Kanepi, who had reached quarter-finals of US Open in 2010 & 2017, French Open in 2008 & 2012, and Wimbledon in 2010 & 2013, demolished Kenin in straight sets 6-3,  6-2 in 2nd round winning 3 break points and 3 games in a row during the match. Kanepi also hammered 10 Aces in the match to none by Kenin. The Estonian, in all, won 65 points in the match to 44 by the American.

Kanepi will face 28th seed Donna Vekic, 24, Croatia,  in 3rd round on February 12, 2021. Vekic defeated Nadia Podoroska, 24, Argentina, 6-2, 6-2 in 2nd round on February 11, 2021. Vekic won 6 break points to 2 by Nadia.  She won 5 games in a row during the match to 2 by Nadia.  Vekic also fired 4 Aces in the match.

6th Seed Karolina Pliskova, 28, Czech Republic, reached the third round of AO beating Danielle Rose Collins, USA, in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 in 2nd round.  Pliskova won 6 break points in the match to 3 by Collins. She also won 6 games in a row in the match to 2 by the American. Karolina Pliskova, who had reached AO semi-finals in 2019 and US Open final in 2016, face 25th seed Karolina Muchova, 24, Czech Republic, in 3rd round. Muchova had defeated 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, 23, Latvia, in 1st round.
