Saharsa: SDO, Saharsa, Jhangir Alam, and SDPO Subodh Kumar Biswas had to apologise to the local journalists after an SI of Sadar police station Nitesh Kumar thrashed reporter of a Hindi daily Sushil Jha at Zila School where the counting of ballot papers of Panchayat polls was going on.
The people present at the counting centre saved Jha. The local journalists staged dharna at the counting centre in protest against the incident and also submitted a memorandum to the Saharsa DM and SP demanding stern action against the SI. They were not satisfied with an inquiry ordered into the incident by the district administration. Later, they were asked to reach the Sadar police station where the SDO and SDPO heard them as well as SI Nitesh Kumar. The two officials forced the SI to apologise to the mediapersons. They also apologised to the mediapersons on his behalf. Several incidents of misbehaviour with local journalists have taken place at Saharsa in recent past, alleged the local journalists.
