Patna : World Number 17  and 14th seed John Isner, 32, USA, won his first ATP Masters 1000 singles title on April 1, 2018, by lifting the Miami Open ATP Masters title defeating World Number 5 and 4th seed Alexander Zverev, 20, Germany, in the final.

Isner defeated  Zverev in a three-set thriller 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 in 2 hours and 29 minutes rallying back after losing the first set at Crandon Park Tennis Centre, Key Biscayne, Florida, USA. It is 13th career title of Isner. On March 31, 2018, Sloane Stephens, 24, USA, had lifted the women’s title.

Defending champion Roger Federer, 36, Switzerland, had lost in the second round of the tournament to Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Isner had reached the finals of three ATP Masters 1000 events in the past but had failed to win any of them. Zverev, on the other hand, has won two ATP Masters 1000 title, both in 2017. Isner is the first USA player since Andy Roddick in 2010 to win the Miami Open title.
