Ranchi ( Jharkhand) : Hemant Soren , 44, the JMM working president, on December 29, 2019, took oath as the 11th chief minister of Jharkhand. Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office and secrecy to him at Mohrabadi Ground, Ranchi, amid a galaxy of politicians and dignitaries. Shibu Soren, Hemant Soren’s father, along with his family, was present at the swearing-in ceremony. Shibu Soren had served as chief minister of Jharkhand thrice.
This is Hemant’s second stint as Jharkhand chief minister. His first had lasted for about 14 months since July 15 2013. The JMM-Congress-RJD alliance had won 47 seats in 81-Member Jharkhand Assembly in the recently concluded Jharkhand Assembly Elections. JMM had won 30 seats while Congress won 16 seats and RJD won one seat. Hemant Soren had won from two seats : Barhait (in Sahibganj) and Dumka.
Congress Legislature Party leader Alamgir Alam, Jharkhand Congress President Rameshwar Oraon, and RJD MLA Satyanand Bhokta were sworn in as Cabinet Ministers.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechuri, and CPI General Secretarleader D Raja were present on the occasion. Former CM Raghubar Das also attended the function.
