He purchased milk from a milkman Ashok Ram but the milkman stopped supplying milk to him as he had not paid the money for milk for several months. Angry over it, Pawan Kumar allegedly shot dead Ashok Ram, his wife Shanti Devi, and his pregnant daughter Varsha Devi and injured another daughter Suman Devi and son Sanjay Ram at their house at Barakakana with his service revolver on August 17, 2019 and escaped.
The injured were later admitted to Ranchi Medical College and Hospital in critical condition. Despite several attempts, Jharkhand police could not arrest Pawan Kumar and so they prayed the court to issue Ishtehar against him.
