Bokaro (Jharkhand) :  Stressing on  physical fitness and  better training  on lines of  district police cops  to assist administration, Jharkhand Homeguards (HG) and Fire Services  director general (DG) Bibhuti Bhushan Pradhan stated he is  chalking out strategies to change the outlook of Homeguards who should not remain inferior to state police cops  in terms of training, physical fitness and  discipline.

The 1985  batch IPS officer, who has recently been elevated on the rank of DG, came to Bokaro where he had on the spot visit of Bokaro fire services’ new campus along with residential units which despite being  inaugurated by former DG Asha Sinha and even Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das  still remains non-functional. Speaking about Homeguards, DG Pradhan informed that at present of the total 30,000 posts of Homeguards, there are 10,000 vacancies for which  recruitment  process is going  at 8 places in Jharkhand.

DG Pradhan stated that  as there is 50% reservation for Homeguards in police recruitment, the well trained Homeguards must avail this opportunity to get into police but for this they will have to meet physical fitness criteria and tests fixed for becoming a cop. “Despite having 50 % reservation in police recruitment, a large numbers of HG  do not  qualify in the physical fitness tests which is sad. I will now stress on  better training facilities for HG at par with state police. I am sincerely working on this ,” he said.  He later  called upon Chas inspector  Kamal Kishore who 0promised to get two handpumps installed immediately after which he  asked the Fire services staffs to shift to new premises  by February end.

“ I have directed  the inspector to  install handpumps to solve water problems  but few staffs have  requested to retain  the present Bokaro fire Service  campus which is located on National Highway—23 in Bokaro steel city to cater to the needs of  steel city and adjoining areas which is also being looked into. We will be giving three more fire brigades to Bokaro fire services and will even impart all fire services staffs training with latest  fire fighting equipment. brought  to fight sudden fire,” informed Pradhan .
