Ara : Some unidentified bike borne criminals shot dead a jeweller Harishankar Soni, 35, near village Shobhi Dumara  on Ara – Saraiya main road under Krishnagarha police station in Bhojpur district late March 24, 2017, evening when he was returning home on his motorcycle. The deceased was a resident of Tari Mohalla under Town police station, Ara, and son of Bharat Sah.

Soni had gone to Saraiya Bazaar along with Bharat Kumar of Ramgarhia locality as usual on his motorcycle on March 24 for collection of dues from his clients but was returning alone on his motorcycle to Ara in the late evening the same day. When he reached near Shobhi Dumara village on Saraiya-Ara main road, four armed miscreants on two motorcycles intercepted him and looted all his belongings including cash and gold.

When Soni protested, the miscreants shot at him and escaped with the booty. The villagers and police were bringing him to Ara Sadar Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital. Later, the villagers and residents of Ara blocked the road near Ara Sadar Hospital with the body of the deceased and also staged demonstration at Ara Sadar Hospital.

Hundreds of businessmen and traders, under the banner of Ara Vyavasai Manch, took out a procession on March 25 that passed through the main thoroughfares of the town and forced the businessmen to down their shutters in protest against murder of businessman Soni.
