JD(U) MLA from Tarapur Mewalal suspended from party

Patna : The JD(U) on February 23, 2017, suspended party MLA from Tarapur in Munger district and former VC of Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, in Bhagalpur  district, Mewalal Chaudhary,  in connection with alleged irregularities in the appointment  of 161 Assistant Professors and Junior Scientists in BAU in 2012 during his tenure as its VC.

Chaudhary, the founder VC of BAU,  is a first term MLA. A  case was lodged against him with Sabour police station by the BAU recently in connection with irregularities in these appointments. Chaudhary was suspended from the party on the first day of Budget session of Bihar legislature. Bihar governor Ram Nath Kovind addressed the joint session of both the Houses of state legislature on February 23.

JD(U) MLC and party spokesperson Niraj Kumar while confirming the suspension of Tarapur MLA Chaudhary from JD(U) said that the action was taken in the wake of an FIR lodged against him in connection with alleged irregularities in the appointments of Assistant Professors and Junior Scientists in BAU during his tenure as its VC. He said that the FIR was lodged on the basis of report of a probe committee headed by a retired Patna high court judge.

The JD(U) spokesperson strongly refuted senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi’s charge that the action against Chaudhary was delayed as the file concerned was pending with Chief Minister’s Office.  Kumar reminded Modi that Chancellor was head of all the universities in the state including BAU
