Patna: Armed criminals gunned down JD (U) leader Mukesh Singh (40), general secretary of Barh unit of JD (U), in Thelwa Gosai locality at Lal Kothi under Barh police station in Patna district early on January 8 morning. The deceased was a native village Bhavanchak under Saksohra police station in Barh sub-division of Patna rural. The deceased’s wife is PACS chairman of Saksohra panchayat.
Police said that Singh, who was living in a rented house at Barh, was moving on his Bullet motorcycle on Sunday morning. A group of criminals, who were waiting for him, fired seven rounds on Singh, killing him on the spot at Lal Kothi and escaped from there. On getting information, Barh police reached the spot and sent the body to Sadar Hospital for autopsy. As the news of Singh’s murder spread in the locality, his supporters assembled at the spot and then at Sadar Hospital. The body was later handed over to the family members for last rites. Barh JD (U) unit president Ashok Chandravanshi, who reached at the spot, described the incident as unfortunate one. He said that the killers would be arrested at any cost.
Barh ASP Manoj Kumar Tiwary said that an FIR has been lodged against six persons in this connection. Raids were on to arrest those involved in the murder, he added. A police officer, on condition of anonymity, said that the killers had come to eliminate Singh and it is clear from the way they pumped seven bullets into his body. He said that Singh was a named accused in the murder of mukhiya Viveka Thakur, who was killed about two years ago. “The deceased aware of threat to his life,” the police officer said.
