Patna : JD (U) MLA from Jokihat in Araria district and former minister Sarfraz Alam resigned his assembly seat amidst speculations that he would be RJD candidate for the bypoll to Araria Lok Sabha seat scheduled for March 11, 2018.
The Araria Lok Sabha seat had fallen vacant after death of sitting MP and veteran RJD leader Mohammad Taslimuddin, a former union minister. Sarfraz Alam is son of Mohammad Taslimuddin. After resigning his assembly seat, Sarfraz Alam met RJD national vice-president and former CM Rabri Devi at her residence. The BJP will contest the Araria Lok Sabha seat.
