ISCA to install solar panels, rain water harvesting structures in Kolkata

Patna : Example is better than precept. Making this age-old adage literally true, the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), the biggest organization of scientists in the country, has started the process of installing solar panels and rooftop rainwater harvesting structures in an area of 3,500 square feet at its headquarters in Kolkata.

Giving this information here on Sunday, ISCA treasurer and Patna University pro-vice-chancellor Ranjit Kumar Verma said scientists across the world have been emphasizing on the need for shifting to alternative energy sources and also for conserving the dwindling water resource. “ Our organization thought of setting an example before the society by implementing these socially relevant measures our own office buildings,” said Verma.

The ISCA, which is being looked after by the science and technology department ofGovernment of India, maintains a full-fledged office establishment in Kolkata. This office has become almost paperless with the introduction of NEFT-RTGS and other ICT mechanisms. Steps have also been initiated for the installation of biometrics in the office. A modern research laboratory equipped with all the modern equipment is also going to be established at the headquarters which shall act as a catalyst for scientific collaborations between different scientific groups, he said.

PU is also contemplating to install solar panels at its main office, guest house and different hostels for minimizing the use of conventional energy and creating an eco-friendly environment. Patna Science College was the first institution in the state to adopt rooftop water harvesting technique on its campus way back in 2001. Some other colleges of PU are also likely to adopt this technique soon, added Verma.
