Irregularities in preparation of lists of flood hit people surfaces in Bagaha

Bagaha : Distribution of relief materials and cash among flood affected persons in West Champaran district is proving to be an uphill task for the officials engaged in the work as they continue to face resistance from those whose names do not figure in the list of beneficiaries. Those whose names do not figure in the list of flood affected people are charging the respective Mukhiya and Ward members of respective panchayats with tampering the list.

Hundreds of persons including women of Baragoan panchayat under Bagaha block staged demonstration before the office of SDM, Bagaha, Dharmendra Kumar, and entered into his official chamber on September 4, 2017, and apprised him of the alleged irregularities in the preparation of the list of beneficiaries. The protesters alleged that the Mukhiya and Ward members had included the names of two to three members from the families of their supporters in the list ignoring the genuine persons.

The SDM listened to their complaints and said that the lists of beneficiaries had been desplayed on the  notice board of Bagaha block office and asked them to see the lists and then lodge their written objections. He said the names of undserving persons would be removed from the list after inquiry. He said that till the inquiry is complete, cash will not be given to the flood affected people.

The SDM said that the people found responsible for irregularities in the preparation of the list will be punished. He told to the protesters action had been initiated against a team of Englishia panchayat and an FIR had also been lodged those committing irregaularities in the preparation of list of beneficiaries. Residents of several panchayats of Bagaha Sub-division reach Bagaha daily and lodge their complaints against the respective Circle Officer, Mukhia and ard Members with the SDM.
