Patna : Ireland stunned ICC World Cup Champion England in the one-off test at Lord’s, London, by bowling them out for a paltry 85 runs in 23.4 in the first session of the match on day 1 on July 24, 2019, with right arm fast medium bowler Timothy James Murtagh, 37,  taking 5/13 in 9 overs, his maiden five wicket haul, and right arm fast bowler Mark Adair, 23, taking 3/32 in 7.4 overs. Medium fast bowler Boyd Rankin, 35, took 2/5 in 3 overs. England had won the toss and opted to bat.

Batting first, England lost the wickets of both its openers : Rory Burns and Jason Roy, with only 36 runs on the board, both falling to Murtagh. Jason Roy was first to go when the England score was 8. Burns fell to Murtagh for 6 when the score was 36. Joe Denly, who fell to Mark Adair for 23, was the top scorer for England. Captain Joe Root also fell to Adair for 2 while star batsman Jonny Bairstow fell to Murtagh for zero. Both Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes fell to Murtagh for zero each. Sam Curran fell to Rankin for 18 while Olly Stone fell to Adair for 19.

In reply, Ireland were 146/6 after 41 overs in the third session of the day with Andrew Balbirnie scoring 55 and Paul Stirling 36. Stuard Broad, Olly Stone, and Sam Curran had taken two wickets each.
