Patna: Ruby Rai, the girl student of Vishun Roy College, Bhagwanpur, in Vaishali district, who had topped the Intermediate arts examinations 2016 conducted by Bihar School Examination Board(BSEB), was arrested by special investigation team (SIT) probing the examination results scam on Saturday. BSEB on Saturday evening declared the result of Ruby Rai as null and void. She failed at the interview before the experts. She could not reply to the questions given by the subject experts who recommended she should be declared having failed.
Ruby had gone to the office of Bihar School Examination Board to appear before the experts who were called to interview her and test her merit. She had appeared before the experts committee after three notices given by the board. She was taken to Kotwali police station by the SIT from the board office for interrogation.She was a named accused in the scam. Three other toppers, who are also named as accused, had earlier appeared for interview on June 3.They too would be arrested, police said. The SIT team was camping at the board office when Ruby came for interview before the experts who were not satisfied with her replies. She had come with her parents.
Ruby is the first student topper to be arrested in the scam. So far, 18 persons including the then chairman of Bihar School Examination Board Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh, his wife and former JD(U) MLA and then principal of Ganga Devi Mahila College, Usha Sinha, Bachcha Rai, Principal of Vishun Roy college, principals of four other colleges including two women principals have been arrested and lodged in Beru Central Jail. Vikas Kumar, personal assistant to the then chairman of the BSEB, was also arrested on Saturday. He was detained earlier for questioning.
The three days police remand of Lalkeshwar, Usha Sinha and Pankaj Jaiswal concluded on Saturday and they were sent back to Beur jail along with Bachcha Rai who was on a day’s police remand.
