Patna : World No 7 and 2019 World Champion P V Sindhu, 25, India, lost to World No 5 and 2013 World Champion Ratchanok Intanon, 25, Thailand, in straight games 18-21, 13-21 in 43 minutes in her second Group Stage match in HSBC BWF World Tour Finals at Bangkok, Thailand, on January 28, 2021. Sindhu had lost her first Group Stage match to World No 1 Tai Tzu Ying, Taiwan, 26, on January 27, 2021.

Intanon won 42 rallies in the match to 31 by Sindhu. She won 6 consecutive points in the match to 4 by the India. Sindhu had also lost to Intanon in straight games in the QFs of Toyota Thailand Open recently. Intanon now leads Sindhu 6-4 Head to Head.

But, reigning Olympic Champion and World No 6 Carolina Marin, 27, Spain, won her second Group Stage match beating Michelle Li, 29, Canada, in straight games 21-16, 21-13 in 35 minutes.

Carolina, who recently won women’s singles titles at Yonex Thailand Open and Toyota Thailand Open, won 42 rallies in the match to 29 by the Canadian. The Spainiard won 5 consecutive points during the match to 3 by Li. Carolina now leads Li 4-2 Head to Head.
