Patna : India won the first cricket test defeating Sri Lanka by a huge margin of 304 run at Galle International Stadum, Sri Lanka, on the fourth day on July 29, 2017. India scored 600 in the first innings and 240 /3 in second innings while Sri Lanka scored 291 in the first innings and 245 in the second innings. Two Sri Lanka batsmen did not bat in the second innings due to injury.

For India, Shikhar Dhavan and Cheteswar Pujara score centuries in the first innings and Virat Kohli in the second innings. It was Kohli’s 17th century in test matches. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets each in Sri Lanka’s second innings. Jadeja had also taken three wickets in Sri Lanka’s first innings. India now lead 1/0 in the three test series
