India score 288/8 in 1st ODI against WI, Pant scores 71 & Iyer 70

Patna : Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant (wk) scored 70 and 71 runs respectively as India posted 288/8 in 50 overs in 1st ODI against West Indies (WI) at M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on December 15, 2019. It is after a long gap that the middle order clicked for India after the early departure of top order batsmen in an ODI or T20I. WI won the toss but opted to bowl.

India lost their first two wickets for only 25 runs. Opener Lokesh Rahul fell to Sheldon Cottrell for 6 making it 21/1. In the same over captain Virat Kohli fell to Cottrell for 4 and it was 25/2. Opener Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer then added 55 runs for the third wicket. But, Rohit fell to Alzarri Joseph for 36 in 56 balls with 6 four and it was 80/3. Iyer and Pant then added 114 runs for the 4th wicket. Iyer fell to Alzarri Joseph for 70 in 88 balls with 5 fours and a six making it 194/4.Pant fell to WI captain Kieron Pollard for 71 in 69 balls with 7 fours and a six and it was 210/5.

Kedar Jadhav and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja then added 59 runs for the 6th wicket. Jadhav fell to Keemo Paul for 40 in 35 balls with 3 fours and a six making it 269/6. At the same score, Jadeja was run out for 21 and it was 269/7. Shivam Dube fell to Keemo Paul for 9 making it 282/8. Deepak Chahar remained unbeaten on 7.

For WI, Sheldon Cottrell, Alzarri  Joseph, and Keemo Paul took 2 wickets each while Kieron Pollard took one wicket.
