Patna : India were all out for 223 runs in 77.3 overs in the third session of play on day 1 in their first innings in 3rd test against South Africa (SA) at Newlands, Cape Town, SA, on January 11, 2022, night, as fast bowler Kagiso Rabada took 4/73 in 22 overs and fellow fast bowler Marco Jansen took 3/55 in 18 overs. For India, Captain Virat Kohli scored a dogged 79 runs in 201 balls with 12 fours and 1 six while Cheteshwar Pujara scored 43 runs in 77 balls hitting 7 fours. Pujara and Kohli added 62 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, India had a terrible start losing the wickets of both the openers : K L Rahul and Mayank Agarwal, with only 33 runs on board. Rahul fell to fast medium bowler Duanne Olivier for 12 making it 31/1. Mayank felll to Kagiso Rabada for 15 and it was 33/2. Cheteshwar Pujara fell to Marco jansen for 43 making it 95/3. Ajinkya Rahane fell to Rabada for 9 and it was 116/4.
Kohli and Rishabh Pant (wk) added 51 runs for the 5th wicket. Pant fell to Marco Jansen for 27 in 50 balls with 4 fours and it was 167/5. Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin too departed soon. He fell to Jansen for 2 making it 175/6. Kohli and all-rounder Shardul Thakur added 30 runs for 7th wicket. Thalkur fell to spinner Keshav Maharaj for 12 making it 205/7.
