Patna : India defeated England by a huge 157 runs in 4th test at Kennington Oval, London, UK, on September 6, 2021, night, to go 2-1 up in the five -match test series. Opener Rohit Sharma was named Player Of The Match.

Resuming at their overnight score of 77/0, England collapsed to be all out for 210 runs in 92.2 overs in the third session of play on Day 5 with fast bowler Umesh Yadav taking 3/60 in 18.2 overs while fellow fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah took 2/27 in 22 overs. Medium fast bowler Shardul Thakur took 2/22 in 8 overs while spinner Ravindra Jadeja took 2/50 in 30 overs. Dawid Malan was run out. Umesh Yadav, who had not played the first three tests,  took 6 wickets in 4th test.

England openers Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed scored 50 and 63 runs respectively in 2nd innings while captain Joe Root scored 36 runs. Burns and Hameed added 100 runs for the first wicket. Ollie Robinson remained unbeaten on 10.  Jonny Bairstow (wk) and Moeen Ali were out for zero. Bairstow fell to Bumrah yorker.

England were sitting pretty at 100/0 but in a dramatic turnaround India took 10 wickets conceding another 110 runs. England lost 6 wickets for 62 runs in second session. India took 8 overs to take last two England wickets in the third session of play on Day 5. Incidentally, England had taken a 99 runs first innings lead. India had scored 191 runs in their first innings while England scored 290 runs their first innings. India scored 466 runs in their second innings with opener Rohit Sharma scoring 127 runs, his first century in tests overseas and 8th overall.
