Patna : Riding on an incredible innings by Captain and opener Rohit Sharma, who hit 118 in only 43 deliveries hitting 10 sixes and 12 fours, and a brilliant 89 in 49 balls by his partner K L Rahul hitting 8 sixes and 5 fours, India defeated Sri Lanka by 88 runs in the second T20 International at Holkar Stadium, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on December 22, 2017. Rohit scored his second T 20 hundred in only 35 balls sharing the record for the fastest century in T20 International with South African David Miller. Rohit has hit 64 sixes in 2017.
M S Dhoni made 28 in 21 balls hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes while all rounder Hardik Pandya made 10 in three balls hiting a six and a four. For Sri Lanka Captain Thisara Perera and Nuwan Pradeep took two wicket each. D Chameera took 1/45.
Replying to India’s 260/5 in 20 overs, Sri Lanka’s innings ended at 172/9 in 17.2 overs with K Perera making a brilliant 77 in 37 balls hitting 7 sixes and 4 fours and opener Upul Tharanga scoring 47 in 29 balls hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes. K Perera and Tharanga were involved in a 106 run stand. Another opener and wicketkeeper N Dickwella made 25 in 19 balls hitting 2 fours and six. Former Sri Lanka captain and all rounder Angelo Mathews did not bat as he was injured.
For India, wrist spinners Yajuvendra Chahal and Kuldip Yadav took four and three wickets respectively. Chahal took 4/52 in four overs while Kuldip Yadav took 3/52 in four overs. Both Chahal and Kuldip took three wickets each in their fourth over. Hardik Pandya and Jaidev Unadkat took one wicket each. Jasprit Bumrak went wicketless giving away 21 runs in three overs. India now lead the three-match T 20 International series 2-0.
