Patna : India beat South Africa (SA) by 6 wickets in the 8th match of ICC World Cup at The Rose Bowl, Southampton, UK, on June 5, 2019, night, with opener Rohit Sharma, 32, scoring an unbeaten 122 in 144 balls hitting 13 fours and 2 sixes, his 23rd ODI century, digging India out of a tough situation caused due to early dismissals of opener Shikhar Dhawan (8) and captain Virat Kohli (18). Replying to South Africa’s 227/9 in 50 overs, India scored 230/4 in 47.3 overs.

M S Dhoni scored 34 while Lokesh Rahul scored 26. Rohit added 41 runs with Virat Kohli for the 2nd wicket and 85 runs with Lokesh Rahul for the 3rd wicket. He also added 74 runs with M S Doni (wk) for the 4th wicket. Rohit was dropped by David Miller when he was 107. All-rounder Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten on 15 in 7 balls hitting 3 fours. For SA, fast bowler Kagiso Rabada took 2/39 in 10 overs. Andile Phehlukwayo and Chris Morris took one wicket each. Rohit Sharma was declared Player of the Match.
