Patna : India beat New Zealand (NZ) in Super Over, the second in a row, in the 4th T20I at Sky Stadium, Wellington, NZ, on January 31, 2020, to lead 4-0 in the five-match series. With both the teams finishing at 165 runs in 20 overs, the match went into the Super Over. Fast bowler Shardul Thakur, who took two wickets in the 20th over to push the match into Super Over, was declared Player of the Match. NZ had won the toss but opted to bowl.

NZ scored 13/1 in the Super Over losing the wicket of Tim Seifert (wk). Both Colin Munro and Tim Seifert scored 1 four each in the Super Over bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, who had leaked 17 runs in the Super Over in 3rd T20I.

India scored 16 runs in five balls losing the wicket of Lokesh Rahul, who came to bat with captain Virat Kohli. Rahul fell to Tim Southee ( Captain) on the 3rd ball of the Super Over after scoring a six and a four on the first two balls. But, Captain Virat Kohli had crossed over and he scored two and four runs on the next two balls sealing the match.

NZ needed only 7 runs in the 20th over with 7 wickets in hand. But, the last over bowled by Shardul Thakur turned out to be quite eventful with NZ scoring only just 6 runs losing four wickets including that of Roass Taylor and Tim Seifert (wk).

NZ were in commanding position in the match till the 19th over. They, however, lost the wicket of Ross Taylor (24) on the first ball of the 20th over bowled by Shardul Thakur. Daryl Mitchell hit a four on the second ball.  Then Tim Seifert, who played a brilliant innings, was run out for 57 in 39 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Mitchell Santner scored 1 run on the 4th ball and NZ needed just 2 runs off last two balls. But, Daryl Mitchell fell to Thakur for 4 on the fifth ball of the over. NZ required 2 runs off 1 ball. Santner was run out on the last ball resulting in the Super Over. Earlier, opener Colin Munro had scored 64 runs in 47 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes to NZ in control of the match. NZ finished at 165/7 in 20 overs.

Batting first, India scored 165/8 in 20 overs with Manish Pandey scoring an unbeaten 50 in 36 balls with 3 fours and opener Lokesh Rahul scoring 39 in 26 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Captain Virat Kohli fell to fast bowler Hamish Bennett for 11 while opener Sanju Samson scored 8 runs. Shreyas Iyer fell to spinner Ish Sodhi, who took 3/26 in 4 overs.
