Patna : India defeated Malaysia 2-1 in the Asia Cup Hockey final on October 22, 2017, at Dhaka, Bangladesh, winning the tournament for the third time in tournament’s hostory. India had last won the tournament in 20o7 at Chennai. India had also won the title in 2003. Ramandeep Singh and Lalit Upadhyay scored for India while Shahril Saabah scored for Malaysia, who were playing in the Asia Cup Final for the first time. India is currently ranked sixth in the world. As the winner of tournament, India qualified for the World Cup 2018 to be played in India.
