Patna : Electing to bat after winning the toss, India were 357/6 in 85 overs in their first innings in 1st test against Sri Lanka (SL), who are playing their 300th test,  at stumps on day 1 at Punjab Cricket Association I S Bindra Stadium, Mlohali, Punjab, on March 4, 2022, as Rishabh Pant (wk) scored 96 runs in 97 balls hitting 9 fours and 4 sixes while Hanuma Vihari scored 58 runs in 128 balls with 5 fours. It was the 5th time that Pant had got out in 90s.

Pant hit spinner Lasith Embuldeniya for 2 sixes and a four on first three balls of 76th over and then again hit him for a four on the last ball of the over. Embuldeniya conceded 22 runs in that over.  Pant also hit spinner Dhananjaya de Silva foor a four and a six on successive balls in 77th over.

At stumps, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was unbeaten on 45 in 82 balls 5 fours while spinner Ravichandra Ashwin was batting on 10 in 11 balls with 2 fours. They have added 25 runs in 26 balls in their unbroken partnership for the 7th wicket..

Pant and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja added 104 runs for 6th wicket while Virat Kohli and Hanuma Vihari added 90 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Openers Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal gave a good start to India adding 52 runs for the first wicket. Rohit fell to fast medium bowler Lahiru Kumara for 29 in 28 balls with 6 fours. Agarwal fell to spinner Lasith Embuldeniya for 33 in 49 balls with 5 fours and it was 80/2. Kohli playing his 100th test was bowled by Embuldeniya for 45 in 76 balls with 5 fours making it 170/3. Hanuma Vihari fell to fast medium bowler Vishwa Fernando for 58 and it was 175/4.

Pant and Shreyas Iyer added 53 runs for the 5th wicket. Iyer fell to spinner Dhananjaya de Silva for 27 in 48 balls with 3 fours and it was 228/5. Pant was bowled by medium fast bowler Suranga Lakmal for 96 making it 332/6.
