Patna : India defeated Australia by nine wickets in the rain truncated first T20 International at Ranchi, Jharkhand, on October 7, 2017, night, taking 1-0 lead in the three-match T20 series. Asked to bat first by India captain Virat Kohli, who won the toss, Australia had scored 118/8 in 18.4 overs when stopped the play. Under the D/L method, India were set a victory target of 48 in six overs. India scored 49/1 in 5.3 overs with three balls to spare.
Virat Kohli remained not out on 22 in 14 balls with 3 fours while Shikhar Dhawan was unbeaten on 15 in 12 balls also hitting 3 fours. Rohit Sharma, the only Indian wicket to fall, scored 11 runs hitting a six and a four in seven balls. Rohit was bowled by Natahan Coulter Nile.
For Australia, Aaron Finch was the top scorer with 42 in 30 balls with a six and 4 fours. David Warner, who led Australia in the absence of S Smith, scored 8 runs while Glen Maxwell and Tim Paine scored 17 each. Kuldip Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets each while Hardik Pandya, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Y Chahal took one wicket each. D Christian was run out on nine.
