Patna : India defeated Australia by 36 runs in the 2nd ODI at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot, Gujarat, on January 17, 2020, night, to level the three-match series 1-1. Fast bowlers Mohammad Shami and Navdeep Saini took three and two wickets respectively while spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets each. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah took 1/32 in 9.1 overs. Shikhar Dhawan (96)  and Steven Smith (98) missed their respective centuries by a whisker. Australia had won the toss but opted to bowl.

Chasing a target of 341, Australia were all out for 304 in 49.1 overs with Steven Smith scoring 98 in 102 balls with 9 fours and a six while Marnus Labuschagne scored 46 in 47 balls with 4 fours. Captain Aaron Finch scored 33 in 48 balls with 3 fours while David Warner fell to Mohammad Shami for 15 with Manish Pandey taking a brilliant catch. Spinner Ashton Agar scored 25 runs.

Australian fast bowler Kane Richardson remained unbeaten on 24 in 11 balls with 4 fours and a six. Richardson hit Mohammad Shami for 3 fours and a six on successive balls in his 10th over spoiling his figure. Shami took 3/77 in 10 overs.  Navdeep Saini  took 2/62 in 10 overs. Jadeja took 2/58 while Kuldeep Yadav took 2/65. Kuldeep has now 101 wickets in ODIs.

Batting first, India scored 340/6 in 50 overs with Dhawan scoring 96 in 90 balls with 13 fours and six, Virat Kohli scoring 78 in 76 balls with 6 fours, and Rohit Sharma making 42 in 44 balls with 6 fours. Lokesh Rahul played a brilliant knock of 80 in 52 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes. He was run out. Rahul was declared Player of The Match.
