Australia 259/5 after 43 overs in 2nd ODI against India, staring at defeat, Smith scores 98

Patna : Chasing a target of 341 runs, Australia were 259/5 after 43 overs in the 2nd ODI against India at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot, Gujarat, on  January 17, 2020, staring at defeat as the asking rate is 11.71. Ashton Turner is batting on 13 while Ashton Agar is unbeaten on 20 with 3 fours.

Steven Smith fell to spinner Kuldeep Yadav for 98 in 102 balls with 9 fours and a six making it 221/5. Three balls back, Kuldeep had claimed the wicket of Alex Carey (wk) for 18. Kuldeep claimed the wickets of Smith and Carey in his 9th over. Kuldeep has now 101 wickets in 58 ODIs.  Spinner Ravindra Jadeja took 2/58 in 10 overs while Kuldeep took 2/59 in 10 overs. Australia had won the toss but opted to bowl.

Opener David Warner fell to fast bowler Mohammad Shami for 15 with 2 fours while his opening partner Aaron Finch ( captain) fell to Ravindra Jadeja for 33 in 48 balls with 3 fours making it 82/2.Finch and Smith added 62 runs for the 2nd wicket. Smith and Marnus Labuschagne then added 96 runs for the 3rd wicket. Labuschagne fell to Jadeja for 46 in 47 balls with 4 fours and it was 178/3.

Batting first, India had scored 340/6 in 50 overs with openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma scoring 96 and 42 runs respectively while captain Virat Kohli made 78. Lokesh Rahul (wk) was run out for 80 in 52 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes, a brilliant innings. Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 20. Rahul and Jadeja added 58 runs for the 6th wicket.
