Patna : India were all out for 274 in 76 overs in their first innings against England on the second day of the 1st cricket teat at Edgbaston, Birmingham, UK, on August 2, 2018, riding on a brilliant 149 in 225 ball with 22 fours and a six by captain Virat Kohli, his 22nd test century. It was Kohli’s 15th century as captain. England were 9/1 in 3.4 overs at stumps with opener Alastair Cook again getting out to spinner Ravichandra Ashwin for a duck. England lead by 22 runs.

Kohli was involved in a 57 run partnership with fast bowler Umesh Yadav for the 10th wicket. Yadav remained unbeaten on 1. Kohli was also involved in a 35 run partnership with Ishant Sharma for the 9th wicket. Sharma made 5. Kohli waged a lone battle with none of the other top or middle order batsman making any significant contribution. Kohli’s knock is very important as he had scored only 134 runs against England in the 2014 test series.

Openers Murli Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan scored 20 and 26 runs respectively while Hardik Pandya made 22. Ajinkya Rahane scored 15 while wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik was out for a duck. Lokesh Rahul made 4. For England, medium fast bowler Sam Curran took 4/74. James Anderson, Ben Stokes, and spinner Adil Rashid took two wickets each.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 285/9, England were all out for 287 runs in 89.4 overs in their first innings.
