Patna :  Set a small target of 208 run to win the match, Indian batsmen put yet another disastrous show and were staring at defeat with 82/7 in their second innings at tea on the fourth day the first cricket test against South Africa at Newlands, Cape Town, South Africa, on January 8, 2018, failing to take advantage of splendid performance of their bowlers in the match. The Indian bowlers took 20 wickets in the match but the performance of the batsmen was terrible. India need 126 runs to win the match with only three wickets in hand.

Openers Shikhar Dhavan and Murli Vijay were out for 16 and 13 runs respectively while Captain Virat Kohli was lbw to Philander for 28. Rohit Sharma, who made 11 in the first innings, was out for 10 in 30 balls. Cheteshwar Pujara was out for four to Morne Morkel while Hardik Pandya was out for one. Wriddhiman Saha mde 8 runs. For South Africa, Vernon Philander took 3/ 22 while Morne Morkel took 2/29 and Kagiso Rabada 2/30.

Earlier, South Africa were all out for 107 in their second innings just before lunch on January 8. India had made 209 in their first innings.
