Patna : Electing to bat after winni ng the toss, India were 364/4 in 89 overs at stumps on day 1 of the first cricket test against West Indies at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot, Gujarat, riding on superb century on debut by opener Prithvi Shaw, 86 by Cheteswar Pujara and an unbeaten 72 by captain Virat Kohli. Opener Lokesh Rahul was out for a duck in the first over itself while Ajinkya Rahane scored 41.

Shaw, 18, scored 134 in 154 ball with 19 fours while Pujara hit 14 fours in his 86 in 130 ball. Rahane made 41 in 92 ball with 5 fours. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was unbeaten on 13. Shaw and Pujara added 206 runs for the second wicket. Kohli and Rahane stitched a 105 run partnership for the fourth wicket. Kohli hit 4 fours in his unbeaten 72 in 137 ball.

For West Indies, Shanon Gabriel, Sherman Lewis, Devendra Bishoo, and Roston Chase took one wicket each.
