Patna : India were 221/4 in 70 overs at stumps on Day 1 in their first innings in 2nd test against New Zealand (NZ) at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, Maharashtra, on December 3, 2021, with opener Mayank Agarwal unbeaten on 120 in 246 balls hitting 14 fours, his 4th ton in tests, and 4 sixes and Wriddhiman Saha (wk) batting on 25 runs in 53 balls with 3 fours and 1 six. Mayank and Saha have added 61 runs in their unbroken partnership for the 5th wicket. Saha had also scored an unbeaten 61 in 2nd innings of 1st test.
India elected to bat after winning the toss and its openers : Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill provided a solid start adding 80 runs for the first wicket. But, India suffered three major blows as first Gill (44 in 71 balls with 7 fours and 1 six), and then Cheteshwar Pujara (0) and captain Virat Kohli (0) fell to spinner Ajaz Patel making it 80/3 after 30 overs. Kohli talks a lot about intent. He should also talk about his own batting now. Mayank and Shreyas Ieyer added 80 runs for the 4th wicket. Iyer fell to Ajaz Patel for 18 making it 160/4. Patel took 4/73 in 29 overs.
