Ara: Prohibition notwithstanding, liquor mafias are smuggling liquor from other states into Bihar. Liquor is being supplied door to door after getting order on mobiles but the boozers have to pay thrice the original price. Though the police have arrested at 130 small liquor traders but the kingpins are roaming free. Now the Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) is easily available even in rural areas in Bhojpur district.
Sources said that the liquor mafias have formed their syndicates each comprising four or five liquor mafia and smuggling liquor from Utter Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bengal, Chhatisgarh and Haryana besides Madhya Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh into Bihar on Pick- Up vans and trucks loaded with other goods. The Syndicates distribute the consignment among themselves and hide them at secluded places. They prefer smuggling of liquor from Bengal as it is packed there per litre while in other states it is available in 750 ml pack. Liquor is being smuggled into Bhojpur district from three routes.
