Muzaffarpur: Police on Tuesday arrested husband of Mukhia of Nawalpur Godhwara panchayat in Muzaffarpur district Chumman Pandey alias Mukteshwar Pandey for firing at police when they reached his residence to arrest him.
Muzaffarpur SSP Vivek Kumar said since criminal cases were pending against Chumman a police team had gone to his village to arrest him but he started firing at the force. Chumman fired around 30 rounds at police, the SSP said adding police also returned fire in self-defence and arrested him. Police seized three countrymade pistols and 18 live cartridges from Chumman’s house during search, the SSP said.
Police also arrested seven other criminals under Bochaha and Kathaiya police stations and seized six pistols and 26 live cartridges from their possession. The SSP said that four of these seven criminals were arrested near Sarfuddin overbridge under Bochaha police station while planning a loot.
