Patna : Over 4 crore people participated in human chain formed across the state to January 21, 2018, to register their protest against social evils : child marriage and dowry. The human chain was formed in 13,668 km across the state with CM Nitish Kumar leading it at Patna Gandhi Maidan accompanied by his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi, Bihar Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Road Construction Department (RCD) Minister Nand Kishore Yadav. Education Department of Bihar Government was the nodal department of the event.

Nitish released 100 bunches comprising 50 balloons each at Patna Gandhi Maidan to start the event. The human chain started from Patna Gandhi Maidan and extended to national highways, state highways, different districts, blocks, and villages. Ministers were given charge of different districts. Bihar Government had also issued traffic advisory for the occasion. The event was photographed by about 40 drones. Participation of school kids in the human chain formation was voluntary.

Bihar JD(U) president Bashistha Narain Singh, MP, who participated in the human chain formation on Strand Road near Eco Park with several party leaders, described the event as unprecedented. Singh said that Nitish Kumar is the only chief minister in the country who had put social reforms on his agenda. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has linked politics with the society which is unique, the Bihar JD(U) chief said.
