Gopalganj: Even as the Gopalganj district administration and Excise officials tightened their noose around liquor mafias, a 40 year old man Vijay Bahadur Ram died at Gorakhpur on Sunday after consuming hooch at village Karnpura on Saturday. With this the death toll in hooch tragedy increased to 21 in Gopalganj district.

Family members said that hooch was being sold at the village and on Saturday Vijay had consumed hooch and reached home in the evening. They said that when his condition deteriorated on Sunday morning, he was admitted to Emergency Ward, Sadar Hospital, Gopalganj. The attending doctors including Civil Surgeon Dr Madheshwar Prasad and Dr Kaisar Zaved referred him to Gorakhpur Medical College hospital. The elder brother of Vijay told the police that he had boozed and his condition deteriorated after that.

If hospital sources are to be believed, Vijay admitted before the attending doctors that he had taken liquor.  As Gopalganj DM Rahul Kumar came to know about the incident, he sent DCLR Vimal Kumar Singh to ascertain the fact.
