Patna : World No 1 tennis player in WTA rankings Simona Halep, Romania, and World No 7 Elina Svitolina, Ukraine, entered the quarters-finals of Cincinnati Masters 1,000 at Mason near Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, on August 17, 2018. Top seed Halep beat 16th seed Ashleigh Barty, Australia, 7-5, 6-4 in the third round. Barty served 5 Aces in the match to just 1 by Halep. But, Halep won 4 break points to 2 by Barty.

Fifth seed Svitolina beat World No 173 Amanda Anisimova 6-4, 6-4 in the third round to move into the quarters-finals. World No 14 Elise Mertens, 22, Belgium, beat World No 3 Sloane Stephens, USA, 7-6, 6-2 to enter the QF.
