New Delhi : Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Arun Jaitley addressed a Special Event hosted by US-India Strategic Partnership Forum on ‘Indian Economy: Prospect and Challenges’ in Washington DC on October 13, 2017. He said that the big reforms undertaken by the Government of India for raising economic growth and maintaining macroeconomic stability have made India one of the fastest growing major economies in the world.
Jaitley said that the launch of the GST represents a historic economic and political achievement unprecedented in Indian tax and economic reforms, which has rekindled optimism on structural reforms, according to a PIB release. He said that India carried out such major reforms when the Global Economy was slow. With the cyclical recovery in global growth amid supportive monetary conditions and the transient impact of the major structural reforms over, India will continue to perform robustly, the Minister added.
On the sidelines of the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings, Jaitley also held bilateral meetings with the Italian Minister for Economy and Finance, Australian Treasurer and the Iranian Minister for Economy and Finance, and discussed areas of mutual collaboration, issues being faced in investment and projects being undertaken by the respective countries and commonality of their positions in various multilateral fora, according to the PIB release.
