Patna : Bihar Governor cum Chancellor Ram Nath Kovind while inaugurating the conference of VCs and Pro VCs at Raj Bhavan on May 16, 2017, stressed on restoration of old glory of higher education in the state. He said the universities should be developed as per the expectations and needs of the students. He asked the universities to maintain admission, examination and results schedule and hold convocation to give degrees to the students. He also directed the VCs to maintain law and order on university and college campuses.

The governor directed all the universities to adopt five villages each and asked them to make maximum use of Information Technology.

CM Nitish Kumar said that the universities should accord top priority to maintain their academic calendar. He said that there was time when being a student of Patna Science College, PU, used to be  a matter of prestige. He said that the state government was spending Rs 3,400 crore on state varsities and they are expected to deliver results. The CM said that the state government’s education budget had increased to Rs 25,000 crore now.  Education Minister Ashok Chaudhary said that the government was committed to restore autonomy of universities.
